Augusta Colonial Theater begins search for executive director
AUGUSTA – Augusta Colonial Theater will soon be under new leadership as it seeks an executive director to guide it into the future. This is a newly created position for the Colonial as it currently operates under an all-volunteer board.
“This represents a major leap forward for the Colonial Theater,” said Michael Hall, who serves as board member in addition to his role as executive director of the Augusta Downtown Alliance. “The theater has never had an executive director before, and having someone focused full-time on this project is exactly what is needed to drive this project home.”
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of five to seven years of related senior management experience in nonprofit development, arts administration, or a related field to apply. A successful track record in fundraising and board leadership are must haves, as well.
“All of us (on the board) are very excited about this announcement,” said Crystal Sullivan, a member of the board of directors. “It represents a real turning point for this campaign and the theater itself!”
Plans to restore the theater include a larger stage, about 800-1,000 seats, the installation of box seating in the balcony, a new ceiling, and a new orchestra pit. In addition, a new building will be constructed on the adjoining northern wall of the Colonial to meet accessibility requirements, while providing space for bathrooms and other modern amenities.
“Already, over the course of the last year, we‘ve seen additions in the form of a new roof and subfloor,” said Hall. “This new leadership addition, however, just might be the most important one of all.”
